VAN WYK GRUMBACH SYNDROME: CASE REPORT

BACKGROUND: Children with primary hypothyroidism usually presents delay in linear growth and pubertal development, but rare instances they can present precocious puberty. In 1960, presentation of puberty was first reported labelled as Van Wyk Grumbach syndrome (VWGS). We report a case VWGS six years old girl. CASE DESCRIPTION: A girl presented accompanied by short stature delayed bone age due to untreated hypothyroidism. On examination she had Tanner’s stage B3 (breast development) P2 (pubic hair). She normal external genitalia. workup her Thyroid Stimulating Hormone 100 mIU/ml, Free-T4 0.7 ηg/dl, Follicle 8.1 Luteinizing 0.12 estradiol 58 ρg/ml prolactin 177 ηg/ml. Pelvic ultrasound revealed uterine size 5.4 × 3.2 3.6 cm enlarged ovaries multi cystic appearance. started on 50 µg Levo-thyroxine per day then reassessed after 9 weeks treatment which showed improvement Stage hormonal profile. CONCLUSION: The diagnosed responded the evident physical biochemical assessment.
